The easiest way to convert to renewable energy in your home is probably to get in touch with your current supplier and ask them about their green plan, as most have one (we have included links to some of them at the bottom of this page).

However, you should bear in mind that the Government has imposed an obligation on electricity suppliers to source a specific and annually increasing percentage of the electricity they supply from renewable sources (see BERR website for more information). Consequently, joining one of these plans may not result in any additional 'green' energy being produced.

The greenest option is therefore likely to be to choose a dedicated green supplier below.

Dedicated Renewable Energy Suppliers

Ecotricity
Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Building wind turbines and selling green electricity across the UK since 1996.
Good Energy
Chippenham, Wiltshire.
Suppliers of 100% renewable electricity to homes and businesses in England, Wales and Scotland.
Green Energy UK
London.
Renewable energy from wholly British sources. Two tariffs - choose either Deep green or Pale green.

Traditional Suppliers

British Gas
London.
Includes two Green Energy packages to match the electricity you use with an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources.
Ebico
Not for profit Energy Supplier.
Although Ebico don't have a specific "Green Plan" we have included them on Living Ethically because of their ethos - basically they provide electricity and gas at fair rates for every customer, however they choose to pay. They also run the EquiClimate carbon offset scheme.
EDF Energy
London.
Green Tarriff pledges to match the electricity you use with an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources.
E-on
UK.
Under Go Green plan electricity usage is matched with energy generated from hydro and wind power, and they offset the carbon dioxide emissions from your gas.
Npower
Every unit supplied by Npower under their Juice plan is matched with one generated from wind power.
RSPB Energy
RSPB works in partnership with Scottish & Southern Energy Group to supply their customers with hydro-electric power.
Scottish Power
Scottish Power claims to be the largest UK wind farm operator. Chose their Green Energy H20 plan to match your usage with power generated from hydro electric power.
Utilita
Planetsaver is a dual Fuel, carbon neutral tariff that sources electricity from UK renewable energy projects, and offsets gas usage with Climatecare.
